Sport has always been a big part of life in the villages. Years ago much of it was centred around the school with headmaster Mr J.J. Fox, a keen leader of school cricket and football. Many of the images we have are of these days and are shown in our Picture Archive (see Link below).
Many will remember when cricket was played in the field on the left down Austwood (Chapel) lane, where the Willow Crescent houses are now. There was an old railway carriage there in the 1950-60's where teas and potted meat sandwiches were made when matches were on.
But we now have the Ruddle Centre and playing fields and there are plenty of stories from the past and present on sports in the villages - please help us out by telling us about your experiences.
